The One Room Challenge has started, and while I’m not participating this round, I wanted to share with you my reasons you should hire an interior designer. Working with Hayden of Markley Design during the last one room challenge was the best decision I could have made, and now I’m hooked! Below are my list of 10 reasons I think interior designers are the bees knees, and if you’re decorating a space, you need to hire one ASAP.
#1 – They know people. I searched and searched for the perfect vintage kilim runner for our kitchen, but for the life of me could not find one to match the rest of our decor in within my price range. Hayden found one in the blink of an eye at a designer event she went to, that I never would have had those perks without her. Holla.
#2 – They are basically forced to be your best friend for the duration of the project. We shared endless texts, emails, and phone sessions, and she listened to all my worries, fears, excitement, and complaints. Get a fun one and you’ll laugh a lot and end your project with a great friend.
#3 – They know their stuff. What size curtains should I order? What size rug? What paint color do I go with? Whatever question you throw at them, they’ve got an answer…which is much better than google.
#4 – They are a set of fresh eyes. After looking at a space for so long, trying to figure out what you want to do, sometimes it so helpful to bring in a set of fresh eyes to give a new perspective on the space.
#5 – They can visualize the finished project. There were pieces to our living room that made me nervous, but I totally trusted Hayden’s opinions. An interior designer will have more experience, and know what will generally work and won’t work in a space.
#6 – They can find great deals. Hayden was great about helping me stay in budget. When I found my dream coffee table, she found me one that was super similar but within my budget. They know how to get great prices on items, and what items you should splurge on.
#7 – You’re going to save time. If finishing projects were just up to me… it would take me years. Some rooms that I started when we moved into our house 3 years ago are still not done. With an interior designer, I was amazed how quickly we were able to complete a project.
#8 – You’ll have better resources and contacts. When it comes to other spaces you want to work on, you’ll have a list of quality, trusted resources and contacts.
