If you’re like us and have a monthly budget you stick to, then this post is for you. We have always tried to have a weekly ‘date night,’ but we honestly are the worst at sticking to it. Sometimes it is budget related, and other times it’s poor lack of planning on our part. To make our date night happen, we’ve come up with a few different ways to connect during the week, even with an insane dog running around and a needy baby on my hip, without breaking the bank. If we can do it, you can to! ;)
| Go on a coffee date. One of my favorite ways to spend time with my husband is by going to get coffee. We have a weekly ‘entertainment’ budget we use for dates and dinners. I love that our coffee dates don’t put much of a dent in it. If things are super tight, we’ll opt for a black cup of coffee over fabulous conversation. A date night for under $5! And then if we want to splurge, we’ll buy a fancy drink ;). Over christmas, I was obsessed with the peppermint white chocolate mocha from Starbucks. Nowadays, you’ll find me sipping on a vanilla lavender latte from The Village Grind.
| Exercise together. Even if you don’t have a gym membership, exercising together is a great way to spend quality time with one another and have intentional conversation. Even if we aren’t trying to get our sweat on, we’ll still go for a leisurely walk together. If we take Piper, the rhythm of the stroller will usually put her right to sleep, so it feels like its just me and Scofield again ;). And the cost of running or walking outside? … Free!
| Go on a picnic. Another way I love to spend time with Scofield, without breaking the bank, is going for a picnic. We’ll pack sandwiches, some fruit, and maybe some sparkling water, and head out to the park with a blanket and our picnic basket. We can typically create a meal over things we already have in our house, so this typically doesn’t cost us a thing.
| Go hiking. I am super excited for the warm weather that’s coming, because that means more hiking. I love driving through the mountains, so the drive up to the hiking trails is an added perk for me. State parks typically just cost a few bucks to get in, and they come with a view that’s worth much more!
| Watch a movie at home. With a redbox around every corner, we are always tempted to go grab a movie. I love how you can get a new movie for just a few dollars, which is way cheaper than going to the movies. We’ll often time make dinner and sit down with a movie after we put Piper down to have some time together.
| Grab an ice cream cone. If you don’t have the budget for a full meal, just go out for dessert! For just a few dollars you can get a scoop of ice cream, or better yet, share a cone to add an extra romantic element ;).
| Take your dog to the dog park together. I love that we have a dog park right down the street from our house. It’s always fun to take Sage and let him run around and play while we catch up after the work day.
| Walk around the farmer’s market. Spring is almost here, which means the farmer’s market will be back up and running! Even if we don’t buy anything, I absolutely love just grabbing a cup of coffee and going to walk around and explore. A lot of times there are fun samples to try, and we’ll typically walk away with a goodie or two.
| Binge watch a new tv series. It’s so nice to stay in and be lazy on a weekend every once in a while. One of my favorites memories with Scofield is spending my birthday weekend indoors a few years ago and watching the whole ‘Band of Brothers’ series. We had no agenda and nowhere to go, and it was absolutely glorious. Of course I’d get super ancy if we did this every weekend, but every once in a while it’s a real treat.
| Go on a bike ride together. We have a lovely trail that runs through Greenville, called the Swamp Rabbit Trail. You can rent bikes for the day for relatively cheap and ride them on the trail. This is something we haven’t done yet, but that I have definitely been itching to do!
There you have, 10 dates ideas on a budget! If you try one of them, I’d love to hear about it! Happy dating! ;)
