Raising a healthy eater | Click through for recipe!Man, oh man, there is so much I can say about this topic of “raising a healthy eater,” but I will try and spare you ;). To summarize, I am a firm believer in being the mom that bakes homemade quinoa granola bars and brings them along to the park. I am also a firm believer in being the mom that bakes a cake for birthday celebrations, or goes on family dates to get ice cream. I am so very passionate about balance (because let’s be real, what is life without chocolate!!?), and think there is give and take when it comes to food.Raising a healthy eater | Click through for recipe!As I think about Piper and the relationship with food that she is building, it is my hope and prayer for her that she, chocolate, and carrots, all have a mutual friendship throughout her life. It’s something that took me a long time to build (man, those high school days were rough), so as her need for food (vs. breastmilk/formula) grows, it’s something I find myself thinking a lot of.Raising a healthy eater | Click through for recipe!For a while, we’ve been moving through the fruit and vegetable category, teaching her about different flavors. I love to combine flavors and add hints of spices to [hopefully] build her palette. Now, it’s hard to believe, but we’re on to textures! Most of Piper’s dinners consist of a combination of finger foods (bananas and avocado are her favorite!) and stage 3 baby foods. I love how Gerber 3rd Foods with Lil’ Bits combine tiny bites of soft foods with purees to help little crawler’s get use to new textures. Every time we sit down to eat, I feel like Piper gets better and better at chewing, and I get less and less anxiety as her mom ;).Raising a healthy eater | Click through for recipe!I recently put a little breakfast recipe together with Gerber Lil’ Bits Apple, Banana, Strawberry blend, and she loved it! I’ll normally make this for her for breakfast, but let’s be real, sometimes when we need something quick I’ll make it for dinner too. Apple, Banana, Strawberry Oatmeal Bowl

Ingredients:

Gerber 3rd Foods Lil’ Bits Apple, Banana, Strawberry
2-3 tbsp. Gerber Oatmeal Cereal
1-2 tbsp. Breastmilk, Formula, or Water, for mixing
Dash of Cinnamon

To make, first blend the oatmeal and breastmilk (or formula, or water) together to reach the consistency you prefer. Add a dash of cinnamon and stir until combined. Next, take a generous spoonful of the apple, banana, strawberry blend and top the oatmeal. Serve, and watch your little one enjoy!
