Any new mother will always tell you that the one thing that she misses from her life before she became pregnant is that getting a good night’s sleep seems to be a thing of the past. This is because your newborn hasn’t got into the habit of sleeping when you do, and so they wake up at many different times of the night, and because you’re the mom, you have to wake up as well.
These sleepless nights are not good for your general physical and mental health, so you need to get yourself into some habits and your baby as well so that everyone can get a better night’s sleep. Your baby will want to sleep both day and night, so anything that can help them to be more comfortable is something that you should be investing in.
This is why many new mothers and experienced mothers invest in a moses basket because it provides the perfect environment for a baby to snooze whenever he or she wants, and it is incredibly comfortable for them as well. It is also convenient for the parent because their day doesn’t have to stop just because the baby wants to grab a little bit of shut-eye. It is easily carried around and can be safely secured in any car. There are other things that you can do to ensure that your baby will sleep restfully and hopefully all night, and the following are just some of those.
- Get into a rhythm – New babies sleep for about 16 hours a day when they are born, but unfortunately, they don’t do all of this in one sitting and so it takes a short while to learn about your newborn’s sleep cycle. They may want to take multiple micro periods of sleep throughout the day and night, but if you start to develop a rhythm as to when you let them sleep and when you wake them up, then they will start to get into this pattern, and this makes life very easy for you.
- Create good sleeping habits – Try not to get your baby overly excited before you’re going to put them down to sleep. It is always a good idea to give them a warm Bath and some nice music before bedtime. This helps to calm them down and get them ready to sleep. It is also important that your baby associates getting tired with the need to sleep, and although they will cry at the beginning, you need to persevere and put them in a more comfortable position that will allow them to nod off.
- Learn your kid’s habits – You should never associate your baby’s ability to fall asleep with your parenting skills and being a new parent because it takes time to understand your baby’s habits and to get to know and understand them. If you feel stressed, then always know that you can reach out to friends and family who have had babies before, and they can provide you with invaluable advice and information.
Sleep is essential to keep anyone’s body healthy and especially for your newborn baby. If you follow the above three pieces of advice, then there’s no reason why your new baby shouldn’t get into new habits and begin to fall asleep when you want them to.
