Canada is a land with plenty to offer the average tourist. Packed with natural wonders, beautiful cities and a laid-back, unique culture, it draws millions of travellers every year. If you’re planning a visit, you’ll want to be sure that you prioritise the best locations.

What’s best, of course, will depend on your personal priorities. However, there are a number of locations that are really worth considering.

Banff and Jasper National Parks

Canada is home to a myriad of sprawling national parks. Of these, Banff and Jasper are among the most popular and impressive. Hikers might look to tackle the famous Lake Agnes Trail. You might also look for the Banff Gondola, via which you can access the summit of Sulphur Mountain, and the excellent views to be found there.

The parks are linked by a long stretch of scenic highway, known as the Icefields Parkway. As such, you can easily see both of them as part of a single trip, and make time for awesome locations like the Athabasca Glacier and Maligne Lake.

Quebec City

If you’re instead looking for a break in a city, then a trip to Quebec might be in order. A popular stop for Canada cruises, Quebec City (the province’s capital) offers an excellent old town, and plenty of charming little bistros, bars and cafes. The architecture is stunning and offers a vibe that calls to mind the more beautiful European capitals. There’s also an incredible waterfall in the form of Montmorency Falls.

Vancouver Island

On the west coast of the country, just near the border with the US, lies the city of Vancouver. And, just off the coast, is the much larger Vancouver Island, which is largely untamed and untouched. You might look for black bears in the forests, and then for whales in the Clayoquot Sound.

The largest city is Victoria, which is the capital of British Columbia; here, there’s a beautiful harbour to stroll around, and plenty of amazing buildings and attractions to explore.

Toronto

Finally, we should consider the largest and arguably most exciting city in the country: Toronto. There’s enough here to keep most tourists interested for days on end, whatever they’re interested in. Ascend the CN Tower, and marvel at the skyline. Explore the Distillery Historic District, and sample some of the galleries, cafes, and bars. Then, make time for the quirkier parts of town, like Chinatown and the Kensington Market, where there are a number of exotic dishes to sample.
